Cortland Women Beat Fredonia, 154-141, in Home Finale

Senior Janet Rolf won the 100-yard breaststroke and finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke
CORTLAND, N.Y. – Junior Chrisanna Hickey (Hopewell Junction/John Jay East Fishkill) and sophomore Krista Caputo (Staten Island/Curtis) each won two individual events as Cortland defeated visiting Fredonia, 154-141. The Red Dragons finish the dual-meet season with a 9-6 record.

Hickey won the 200-yard butterfly (2:14.57) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:30.17), while Caputo captured the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:05.18) and 500-yard freestyle (5:24.67). Caputo also finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.40).

Senior Janet Rolf (Rome/Rome Free Academy) won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.51) and finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:30.33). Junior Sarah Culmo (West Islip) was the 50-yard freestyle winner (25.13) and placed second in the 100-yard freestyle (55.26).

Senior Jessica Evans (Hamburg) won the 100-yard freestyle (54.94) and finished second in the 50-yard freestyle (25.43). Junior M.K. Dugue (Binghamton/Chenango Forks) completed Cortland's sweep of the top three spots in the 50-yard freestyle with a third-place time of 25.55 seconds. Freshman Katie Cornetta (Gardner, MA) won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:02.59.

The Red Dragons posted the best times in both relays. The combination of senior Katherine Harris (Long Beach), sophomore Michaela Auer (Oswego), Hickey and Culmo won the 200-yard medley relay (1:52.28). Auer, Cornetta, Dugue and Evans finished the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:41.08 as an exhibition entry.

Senior Abigail MacDonald (East Amherst/Williamsville North) recorded three second-place times. She was second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.65) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:13.52), and registered the second-best time in the 200-yard individual medley (2:18.48) as an exhibition entry. Freshman Chelsea Simon (Oneida) was the runner-up in behind Caputo in both the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:16.34) and 500-yard freestyle (5:29.40), while Auer placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.05).

Cortland's seniors – Evans, Harris, Molly Kauders (Suffern), MacDonald, Molly Miller (Eden), Kelsey Roe (Auburn) and Rolf – were honored at their final home meet.

Cortland will compete at the SUNYAC Swimming and Diving Championships Feb. 20-23 at Erie Community College's Flickinger Center in Buffalo.
