Cortland Women Register 11 Individual and Two Relay ECAC Efforts at Cornell Meet

Kailyn Balzano qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 800 meters and led off the ECAC-qualifying 4x800-meter relay
ITHACA, N.Y. - Sophomore Taylor Hudson (Victor) and junior Sarah Bonnell (Norwich) combined for five of Cortland's 11 individual ECAC Championship qualifying performances at Cornell University's Women's Indoor Track and Field Kane Invitational.

Hudson finished third in the long jump at 5.53 meters (18' 1.75"), currently the 10th-ranked performance nationally in Div. III. She also finished fifth in the high jump at 1.60 meters (5' 3") and placed 12th in the 200-meter dash (26.60). Bonnell finished sixth in the 60-meter dash (7.91) and 11th in the 200-meter dash (26.57).

Senior Amber Stephens (Stony Point/North Rockland) finished second in the triple jump at 11.35 meters (37' 3") and sophomore Valerie Vancol (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) placed third in the shot put at 11.75 meters (38' 6.75").

Junior Kelly Hugo (Highland) and freshman Alex Seymour (Etna/Dryden) finished fourth and sixth, respectively, in the pole vault. Hugh recorded a height of 3.45 meters (11' 3.75") and Seymour cleared 3.30 meters (10' 10"). Also hitting ECAC standards were senior Jordyn Naylon (Fairport) in the mile (8th place, 5:15.70) and freshman Kailyn Balzano (East Greenbush/Columbia) in the 800 meters (13th place, 2:21.68).

Cortland also qualified for ECACs in two relays. The 4x400-meter relay team of junior Africa Harper (Bronx/John F. Kennedy), senior Alexis Grable (Pine Bush), senior Caitlin Triantafillou (Getzville/Williamsville North) and senior Abby Vander Veen (Duanesburg/Faith Bible Academy) finished second in 3:58.18. That time is currently ranked eighth nationally in Div. III. The 4x800-meter relay of Balzano, junior Trisha Clark (Pulaski), freshman Kayla Blomback (Orchard Park) and Naylon also finished second in 9:39.57.

Other Red Dragon top performances included a seventh-place triple jump of 10.51 meters (34' 5.75") by senior Alana Hotchkiss (Cicero/Cicero-North Syracuse) and Vancol's 11th-place weight throw of 11.98 meters (39' 3.75"). Senior Nikki Schafer (Troy/Columbia) and junior Alexandra Budd (Riverhead) finished eighth and ninth, respectively, in the high jump. Each cleared 1.55 meters (5' 1"), with number of misses determining the places. Schafer also finished 12th in the long jump (5.04 meters - 16' 6.5").

The 4x400-meter relay of freshman Kristine Moran (Kerhonkson/Rondout Valley), senior Liz Henry (Massapequa Park/Massapequa), sophomore Gabrielle Conant (Tully) and sophomore Kiersten Duroe (Horseheads) finished sixth in 4:09.88.

Freshman Kerri Culhane (Sayville) finished 13th in the mile (5:21.09), junior Colleen Fischman (Orchard Park/Hamburg) was 13th in the 3,000 meters (10:46.28) and Clark was 14th in the 800 meters (2:22.77). Junior Dayna Eikeseth (Staten Island/Tottenville) and sophomore Ameena Dye (DeWitt/Jamesville-DeWitt) finished 13th (18:50.03) and 15th (19:17.89), respectively, in the 5,000 meters and freshman Angelique Jean-Charles (Elmont/Valley Stream) was 15th in the 60-meter hurdles (9.73).
