Sarah Culmo Earns All-America Honors With 15th-Place Showing in 50-yd Freestyle

SHENANDOAH, TEXAS – Junior Sarah Culmo (West Islip) earned honorable mention All-America honors with a 15th-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle at Day 1 of the NCAA Div. III Women's Swimming and Diving Championships.

The four-day meet is being held in conjunction with the men's championships at the Conroe Natatorium and is being hosted by the City of Shenandoah, Texas, and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Culmo swam a time of 23.65 seconds, the 15th-best time in the preliminaries, to earn one of 16 spots into Wednesday night's competition. She finished seventh in the consolation finals in 23.69 seconds for her 15th-place national finish. The top eight national finishers in each event are All-Americans, while places 9-16 are honorable mention All-Americans.

Also on Wednesday, the combination of Culmo, sophomore Michaela Auer (Oswego), senior Jessica Evans (Hamburg) and junior M.K. Dugue (Binghamton/Chenango Forks) finished 21st in the 200-yard medley relay preliminaries in 1:48.77 and did not advance to evening session.

On Thursday, Culmo, Auer, Evans and Dugue are scheduled to compete in both the 200-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard medley relay, while Culmo is slated to swim in the 200-yard freestyle. Cortland enters the 200-yard freestyle relay seeded 11th nationally – its best seeding among the four relays its entered in during the week.
