Cortland Women's 200 Free Relay Earns All-America Status at NCAA Championships

SHENANDOAH, TEXAS – Cortland's 200-yard freestyle relay team of junior Sarah Culmo (West Islip), senior Jessica Evans (Hamburg), junior M.K. Dugue (Binghamton/Chenango Forks) and sophomore Michaela Auer (Oswego) earned honorable mention All-America status with a 12th-place finish during Day 2 of the NCAA Div. III Women's Swimming and Diving Championships.

The four-day meet is being held in conjunction with the men's championships at the Conroe Natatorium and is being hosted by the City of Shenandoah, Texas, and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Cortland recorded a time of 1:36.04 in Thursday night's consolation finals – the third-best time in the race – for its 12th-place finish. The top eight finishers in each event earn All-America honors. Places 9-16 are awarded honorable mention All-America status.

In the preliminaries, Cortland posted the 11th-fastest time in 1:35.72. The time is a new SUNYAC record, although it is not a new school record. The school record of 1:35.09 was registered during a time trial at the SUNYAC Championships last month and was not eligible to be listed as a SUNYAC record by league bylaws.

Also on Thursday, Culmo, Evans, Dugue and Auer competed in the 400-yard medley relay but were disqualified in their preliminary heat. Culmo was originally scheduled to compete in the 200-yard freestyle but did not swim.

Cortland's final two races at the championships are both on Saturday as Culmo will swim in the 100-yard freestyle and the quartet of Culmo, Evans, Dugue and Auer will swim in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
