Cortland Finishes 37th Nationally; Culmo Breaks Own 100-yd Free School Record

Sarah Culmo broke her own school record with a time of 51.71 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle
SHENANDOAH, TEXAS – Junior Sarah Culmo (West Islip) broke her own school record in the 100-yard freestyle during the final day of competition at the NCAA Div. III Women's Swimming and Diving Championships.

Cortland finished in 37th place in the final team standings with 12 points. Emory University won the national title. The four-day meet was held in conjunction with the men's championships at the Conroe Natatorium and is being hosted by the City of Shenandoah, Texas, and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Culmo just missed a spot in the consolation finals. She finished in 17th place in the prelims, with places nine through 16 advancing. Culmo's time of 51.71 seconds broke her own school mark of 52.00 seconds that she set at this year's SUNYAC Championships. Culmo finished eight hundredths of a second behind the 16th-place swimmer.

Cortland's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Culmo, senior Jessica Evans (Hamburg), junior M.K. Dugue (Binghamton/Chenango Forks) and sophomore Michaela Auer (Oswego) finished in 22nd place in the preliminaries in 3:32.99 and did not advance to Saturday evening's competition.
