#1 Red Dragons Drop Knights, 14-3

GENESEO, N.Y. – Nationally top-ranked Cortland out scored Geneseo, 9-2, over the game's final 30 minutes to earn a convincing 14-3 win on the road Wednesday afternoon in SUNYAC men's lacrosse action. The Red Dragons improved to 12-0 overall and 4-0 in the conference, while the Knights dropped to 5-5 and 2-1.

As has been the theme most of the season, the Red Dragons received balanced scoring as 10 players found the back of the net. Junior Cody Consul (Webster/Webster Schroeder) paced the offense with three goals. Junior Joe Slavik (Binghamton/Seton Catholic) tallied a game-high four points on one goal and three assists and senior Brandon Mulholland (Levittown/MacArthur) and sophomore Stephen Burke (Yorktown) scored twice.
 
Senior goalie Mike Kaminski (Sayville) made eight saves in 50 minutes, 46 seconds before giving way to junior Steve Mahle (Camillus/West Genesee), who stopped two shots over the final 9:14. Freshman Pat Baldwin (Alpharetta, GA) won 10-of-15 faceoffs and collected a game-high 10 ground balls.
 
Sam Thompson led Geneseo with two goals. Steve Aziz added one goal and one assist and Steven Cregan chipped in with an assist. Ryan Zaremba started in goal, stopping 14 shots in 50:46. Michael Greubel made three saves over the final 9:14. Tim Burgess recorded seven ground balls and Cregan added five for the Knights.

The Red Dragons opened up a 3-0 lead after the first quarter and led 5-1 at the half. Cortland took control of the game by out scoring the Knights, 5-2, in the third quarter and capped off the game with a 4-0 fourth quarter for the 14-3 final.
