Red Dragon Women Post Numerous ECAC Qualifying Performances at Cortland Classic

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Cortland's women registered 25 ECAC-qualifying efforts and won nine events – six individual and three relays – at the Cortland Track and Field Classic Friday and Saturday. There was no team scoring at the event.

Junior Sarah Bonnell (Norwich) won three events, all with ECAC efforts. She captured the 100-meter dash in 12.95 seconds (12.17 in prelims), the 200-meter dash in 25.98 seconds and the long jump with a distance of 5.53 meters (18' 1.75”). Her 100-meter prelim time ranks seventh nationally in Div. III and her long jump ranks 16th nationally.

Senior Christi Nassauer (Mount Sinai) won the pole vault at 3.45 meters (11' 3.75”). Freshman Alex Seymour (Etna/Dryden) and junior Kelly Hugo (Highland) each cleared 3.25 meters (10' 8”), also ECAC qualifiers. Seymour finished fifth and Hugh eighth due to number of misses. Junior Colleen Fischman (Orchard Park/Hamburg) won the 5,000 meters in 18:30.54 and junior Dayna Eikeseth (Staten Island/Tottenville) was second in 18:39.34, both ECAC qualifiers.

Senior Amber Stephens (Stony Point/North Rockland) captured top honors in the triple jump with a distance of 10.70 meters (35' 1.25”) and finished second in the long jump at 5.34 meters (17' 6.25”). Her long jump is an ECAC qualifier.

Cortland won all three relays. The 4x800-meter relay of freshman Kailyn Balzano (East Greenbush/Columbia), junior Trisha Clark (Pulaski), freshman Kelly Burke (Tillson/Kingston) and senior Jordyn Naylon (Fairport) won with an ECAC time of 9:55.06. The 4x100-meter relay of sophomore Hannah Anthes (Liverpool), freshman Angelique Jean-Charles (Elmont/Valley Stream), junior Lisa Bodratti (Valatie/Ichabod Crane) and freshman Whitney Ford (Oswego) won in 51.99 seconds and the 4x400-meter relay of junior Africa Harper (Bronx/John F. Kennedy), senior Alexis Grable (Pine Bush), senior Caitlin Triantafillou (Getzville/Williamsville North) and senior Abby Vander Veen (Duanesburg/Faith Bible Academy) finished first in 4:10.90.

Harper qualified for ECACs in the 100-meter dash with her preliminary time of 12.58 seconds. She did not compete in the finals. Harper also posted an ECAC time in the 400-meter dash with her second-place effort of 58.70 seconds and she finished third in the 200-meter dash in 27.31 seconds. Harper was one of three Cortland ECAC qualifiers in the 400 meters along with Vander Veen in third place (59.44) and Grable in fifth place (59.99).

Sophomore Taylor Hudson (Victor) finished second in the heptathlon with 4,341 points, which currently ranks 11th nationally. She reached ECAC standards in three of the heptathlon's seven events with a 100-meter hurdle time of 15.09 seconds, a high jump of 1.63 meters (5' 4.25”) and a long jump of 5.36 meters (17' 7”).

Senior Nikki Schafer (Troy/Columbia) finished fourth in the heptathlon with 4,035 points and freshman Kayla Koelbel (Bradford, PA/Kings Park (NY)) was fifth with 3,588 points. Schafer hit ECAC marks in the 100-meter hurdles (14.81) and high jump (1.60 meters – 5' 3”) and Koelbel had an ECAC qualifying time in the 100-meter hurdles (15.60).

Naylon finished second out 38 in the 1,500 meters with an ECAC time of 4:43.75 and sophomore Valerie Vancol (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) was second in the shot put with an ECAC distance of 11.86 meters (38' 11”). Junior Alexandra Budd (Riverhead) tied for second in the high jump with an ECAC height of 1.58 meters (5' 2.25”).

Two Red Dragons met ECAC standards in the 100-meter hurdles. Sophomore Kenya Outram (Brooklyn/Victory Collegiate) had the second-fastest time in the prelims at 15.30 seconds and Jean-Charles was fourth in the prelims in 15.79 seconds. Jean-Charles placed seventh (18.57) and Outram finished 10th (19.08) in the finals.

Bodratti finished second in the 100-meter hurdles finals in 17.11 seconds (16.23 in prelims) and Triantafillou was second in the 400-meter hurdles (1:06.74). Vander Veen was fourth in the 200-meter dash (27.34), freshman Abbey Gray (Homer) finished fourth in the 10,000 meters (42:09.12) and freshman Whitney Ford (Oswego) placed fourth in the 100-meter dash (13.97, 12.92 in prelims). Freshman Kerri Culhane (Sayville) finished fifth in the 5,000 meters (18:48.65) and senior Brittany Krivicich (Middletown/Pine Bush) was fifth in the high jump (1.53 meters – 5' 0.25”).
