PHILADELPHIA, PA. – Junior
Cody Amengual (West Babylon) broke both the SUNYAC and school records in the 3,000-meter steeplechase during Thursday's competition at the Penn Relays. The historic meet is held at the University of Pennsylvania's Franklin Field over five days, but Cortland only had competitors entered in events on Thursday.
Amengual finished fifth out of 17 runners in the College Men's 3,000-meter Steeplechase Championship in 8:57.54. The previous league and school record of 8:57.96 was set by Kyle O'Brien in 2009. Amengual was the lone Div. III runner in the race which included competitors from schools such as Indiana, Kentucky, Texax A&M, William & Mary and Central Michigan.
Amengual's time is an ECAC qualifier and currently ranks third nationally in Div. III.
