Amber Stephens' triple jump of 38 feet, 4.25 inches broke the previous school record that she shared
ITHACA, N.Y. – Senior
Amber Stephens (Stony Point/North Rockland) set a school record in the triple jump and posted two of Cortland's 19 ECAC-qualifying performances at the Cornell University Women's Outdoor Track and Field Big Red Invitational.
The meet was Cortland's final competition prior to next weekend's SUNYAC Championships, which Cortland is hosting on Friday and Saturday, May 3-4. The meet will start Friday at 2 p.m. and Saturday at 9 a.m. The Red Dragons are the two-time defending league champion.
Stephens recorded a triple jump of 11.69 meters (38' 4.25”) to break the previous school mark of 11.54 meters that was held by herself, last season, and Jennifer Sponenberg in 1994. Stephens currently ranks 11th nationally in Div. III in the event. She tied for sixth place overall and was the second-best Div. III performer at the Cornell meet.
Stephens was also one of five Cortland long jumpers to reach ECAC standards. Junior
Sarah Bonnell (Norwich) finished third at 5.85 meters (19' 2.5”) and Stephens was eighth at 5.62 meters (18' 5.25”). Bonnell currently ranks 11th and Stephens 17th on the season's Div. III charts. Junior
Kelly Hugo (Highland) finished 10th in the long jump at 5.44 meters (17' 10.25”), sophomore
Taylor Hudson (Victor) was 11th at 5.43 meters (17' 9.75”) and senior
Nikki Schafer (Troy/Columbia) placed 18th at 5.19 meters (17' 0.5”).
Cortland also had five competitors reach ECAC marks in the 100-meter hurdles. Schafer finished 17th of 40 in 15.26 seconds. Hudson was 21st (15.50), freshman
Kayla Koelbel (Bradford, PA/Kings Park (NY)) finished 24th (15.62), junior
Lisa Bodratti (Valatie/Ichabod Crane) placed 25th (15.68) and sophomore
Kenya Outram (Brooklyn/Victory Collegiate) was 26th (15.73).
Sophomore
Valerie Vancol (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) finished fourth in the shot put with an ECAC distance of 12.09 meters (39' 8”) and senior
Caitlin Triantafillou (Getzville/Williamsville North) was sixth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:04.92, also an ECAC qualifier.
The Red Dragons had three sprinters meet ECAC standards in the 200-meter dash. Junior
Africa Harper (Bronx/John F. Kennedy) finished sixth in a field of 49 competitors in 25.57 seconds. Bonnell was seventh in 25.66 seconds and Outram placed 15th in 26.37 seconds. Hudson cleared an ECAC height of 1.61 meters (5' 3.25”) to finish ninth in the high jump. She was actually tied for fifth in terms of the best height cleared, but placed ninth officially due to number of misses. Senior
Christi Nassauer (Mount Sinai) finished 14th in the pole vault at 3.27 meters (10' 8.75”), an ECAC height.
Cortland also qualified for the ECACs in the 4x100-meter relay as sophomore

Angelique Jean-Charles (Elmont/Valley Stream), Bodratti and freshman
Whitney Ford (Oswego) finished fifth in 50.79 seconds.
