CORTLAND, N.Y. – Freshman
Andre Green (Philadelphia/Indian River) and junior
P.J. Flynn (Valhalla) won events and Cortland turned in an additional 10 runner-up finishes at the two-day Red Dragon Open and Multi at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex.
Green won the long jump with a distance of 7.02 meters (23' 0.5”), a distance that was aided by a 4.5 meters/second tailwind. However, Green also recorded a jump of 6.91 meters (22' 8”) with an NCAA acceptable tailwind of 2.9 meters/seconds. That jump currently ranks 13th nationally in Division III. Flynn won the triple jump with a distance of 13.94 meters (45' 9”), an ECAC qualifier and 13th on the current NCAA Div. III charts.
Senior
Erik LeRoy (Kings Park) finished second in the long jump at 6.76 meters (22' 2.25”) and senior
Mike Ofosu (Accra, Ghana/Shaker (NY)) was second in the triple jump at 12.79 meters (41' 11.5”). Senior
Justin Torres (Rome/Rome Free Academy) finished second in the shot put at 14.01 meters (45' 11.75”) and junior
Tom Calandra (Amherst/Williamsville North) was second in the pole vault at 3.90 meters (12' 9.5”).
Sophomore
Tim Odin (Northport) finished second in the 1,500 meters (4:10.32) and freshman
Keewan Rondinello (Liverpool) placed second in the 400-meter hurdles (57.44). The combination of Rondinello, freshman
Romain Saint Germain (Westbury), sophomore
Cameron Rodgers (Rochester/Wilson Magnet) and sophomore
Eric Wong (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) finished second in 3:34.51.
Junior
Bryan Smith (Tully) placed second in the decathlon with 4,984 points. Sophomore
Woody Millar (Saratoga Springs) finished second in the javelin throw (50.41 meters – 165' 5”) and senior
Andrew Greenberg (Suffern) was second in the 400-meter dash (51.97).
Wong finished third in the 400-meter hurdles (58.00) and freshman
Sean Swartwood (Waverly) placed third in the 400-meter dash (52.89). Senior
Shawn Wilson (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) finished fourth in the discus (41.82 meters – 137' 2”) and fifth in the javelin (45.62 meters – 149' 8”).
Junior
Tyler Prendergast (Waterford/Shenendehowa) turned in three top-six finishes with a fifth-place shot put (13.66 meters – 44' 9.75”), fifth-place discus (41.31 meters – 135' 6”) and sixth-place hammer throw (45.37 meters – 148' 10”).
Sophomore
Tom Milian (East Meadow) finished fifth in the 110-meter hurdles (18.84) and Greenberg was sixth in the 200-meter dash (23.73). Freshman
Julio Melendez (Valley Cottage/Nyack) finished sixth in the 1,500 meters (4:12.13) and sophomore
Steven Pungello (Washingtonville) was sixth in the 10,000 meters (33:17.36).
