Cortland Women Win Seven Events at Red Dragon Open/Multi

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Cortland won seven events and earned 10 runner-up finishes at the two-day Red Dragon Open and Multi at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex.

Sophomore Taylor Hudson (Victor) won the heptathlon with a score of 3,990 points that currently ranks 14th nationally in Division III. Her long jump during the heptathlon of 5.41 meters (17' 9”) is an ECAC qualifier and ranks 18th nationally.

Junior Alexandra Budd (Riverhead) won the high jump with an ECAC-qualifying height of 1.60 meters (5' 3”) and senior Amber Stephens (Stony Point/North Rockland) won the long jump with an ECAC distance of 5.17 meters (16' 11.5”). Junior Kelly Hugo (Highland) won the pole vault by clearing 3.10 meters (10' 2”). Sophomore Kenya Outram (Brooklyn/Victory Collegiate) won both the 100-meter hurdles (16.63) and the 200-meter dash (28.30) and sophomore Kiersten Duroe (Horseheads) won the 400-meter dash (1:01.80).

Senior Nikki Schafer (Troy/Columbia) finished second in the heptathlon with 3,957 points, ranked 16th nationally in Div. III. Sophomore Valerie Vancol (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) finished second in the shot put (11.45 meters – 37' 6.75”) and qualified for the ECAC's with her third-place distance of 38.53 meters (126' 5”) in the discus.

Senior Brittany Krivicich (Middletown/Pine Bush) was second in the high jump (1.50 meters – 4' 11”), freshman Alex Seymour (Etna/Dryden) placed second in the pole vault (2.95 meters – 9' 8”) and sophomore Erica Wharton (Putnam Valley) finished second in the long jump (5.04 meters – 16' 6.5”). Junior Lisa Bodratti (Valatie/Ichabod Crane) was the 100-meter hurdles runner-up (16.91) and freshman Saige Thomas (Elmira/Elmira Free Academy) placed second in the 400-meter dash (1:02.01).

Other Red Dragon second-place finishers included senior Alana Hotchkiss (Cicero/Cicero-North Syracuse) in the triple jump (10.44 meters – 34' 3”), freshman Nicole Bermudez (Lindenhurst) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:14.28) and sophomore Marina Pettinicchi (Bellport) in the 10,000 meters (42:01.47).

Third-place showings were registered by: sophomore Megan O'Regan (West Islip) in the high jump (1.45 meters – 4' 9”); Duroe in the 200-meter dash (28.43); freshman Carla Auguste (Brooklyn/Midwood) in the triple jump (9.96 meters – 32' 8.25”); freshman Michelyn Little (Voorheesville/Clayton A. Bouton) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:19.07); sophomore Kelly Bromm (Washingtonville) in the 10,000 meters (42:22.61); senior Liz Henry (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) in the 400-meter hurdles (1:11.68); and freshman Whitney Ford (Oswego) in the 100-meter dash (13.92).
