Sarah Bonnell Wins ECAC Long Jump Title; Cortland Sixth in Final Team Standings

Junior Sarah Bonnell missed the school record in the long jump by less than two inches
SPRINGFIELD, MASS. – Junior Sarah Bonnell (Norwich) won the long jump to help Cortland finish in sixth place out of 57 schools that scored points at the 2013 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Div. III Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

The two-day meet was hosted by Springfield College. Rowan won the team title with 63 points, followed by Wheaton (Mass.) (57), Tufts (52), Ithaca and MIT (51 each) and Cortland (39).

Bonnell narrowly missed setting a school record with her winning long jump of 5.92 meters (19' 5.25”). She missed the school mark by less than two inches (five centimeters) and is currently ranked third nationally.

Sophomore Taylor Hudson (Victor) finished second in the heptathlon with a score of 4,511 points that ranks 18th nationally. During the heptathlon, she posted a high jump of 1.69 meters (5' 6.5”) that ranks 11th nationally and missed the school record by about an inch and a quarter.

Junior Africa Harper (Bronx/John F. Kennedy) finished fifth in the 400-meter dash (56.88) and sixth in the 200-meter dash (24.95). She also led off the 4x400-meter relay team that finished fourth in 3:54.25. The other members of that relay were senior Alexis Grable (Pine Bush), senior Caitlin Triantafillou (Getzville/Williamsville North) and senior Abby Vander Veen (Duanesburg/Faith Bible Academy).

Senior Jordyn Naylon (Fairport) finished sixth in the 1,500 meters (4:34.93) and sophomore Valerie Vancol (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) was sixth in the shot put at 12.67 meters (41' 7”). Also scoring were junior Kelly Hugo (Highland) and senior Christi Nassauer (Mount Sinai), who tied for seventh in the pole vault at 3.54 meters (11' 7.25”).
