La CROSSE, WIS. - Cortland junior
Cody Amengual (West Babylon) advanced to the finals in the 3,000-meter steeplechase during the opening day of competition at the NCAA Div. III Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by the University of Wisocnsin-La Crosse.
Amengual finished fourth in his heat, and was the eighth-best finisher overall, during Thursday's prelims with a time of 9:07.30. He is one of 14 runners who will compete in the finals Saturday at 2:10 p.m. (Central).
Also on Thursday, freshman
Andre Green (Philadelphia/Indian River) and sophomore
Jon Granger (Ticonderoga) each competed in the long jump finals. Green finished 12th with a distance of 7.04 meters (23' 1.25") and Granger was 18th at 6.40 meters (21' 0"). Isaac Vazquez of Wisconsin-La Crosse won the title at 7.74 meters (25' 4.75").
On Friday, junior
Melique Garcia (Watervliet) will run in the 100-meter dash prelims at 6:50 p.m. and junior
Stephan Linton (Roosevelt) will run in the 400-meter dash prelims at 6:10 p.m. (all times Central).
