La CROSSE, WIS. - Cortland juniors Melique Garcia (Watervliet) and Stephan Linton (Roosevelt) competed in preliminary heats of their events during the second day of the NCAA Div. III Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Garcia finished 13th overall, and fifth in his heat, in the 100-meter dash prelims in 10.82 seconds. He missed advancing to the finals by five hundredths of a second.

Linton finished 18th overall in the 400-meter dash prelims and did not advance to the finals. He was clocked at 49.53 seconds.

Cortland will conclude the national meet Saturday when junior Cody Amengual (West Babylon) runs in the 3,000-meter steeplechase finals at 2:10 p.m. (Central). He had the eighth-best time in the prelims Thursday in 9:07.30 and will be one of 14 runners in the finals.
