Women's Volleyball Ranked 24th in Preseason, Hosting Red Dragon Classic Aug. 30-31

The SUNY Cortland women's volleyball team is rated 24th in the 2013 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III preseason poll. Ninth-year head coach Pam Hoerup's squad returns seven players from last fall's 34-6 team that won the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) title for the third straight year and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Div. III tournament.

In all, the Red Dragons have made 24 NCAA tournament appearances and have won 19 SUNYAC crowns.

Cortland's tri-captains this fall are senior opposite hitter Aubrey Barrett (Liverpool), senior middle hitter Ava Hintz (East Aurora) and senior libero Krissy Silk (Massapequa Park/Massapequa). Barrett averaged nearly two kills and two digs per set and recorded a .252 attack percentage. Hintz finished second on the team with 417 kills (3.1 per set), 135 blocks (almost one per set) and a .319 attack percentage. Silk led the Red Dragons with 568 digs (4.1 per set) and 59 service aces (0.4 per set).

Cortland will host the season-opening 12-team Red Dragon Classic August 30-31. The Red Dragons will play Pitt-Bradford, Baruch, Mount Union and Rochester in the pre-determined schedule. In all, the tournament features seven NCAA qualifiers from last season: national quarterfinalist Clarkson; second-round advancers Cortland, Mount Union, Juniata and Richard Stockton; and first-round eliminated teams Baruch and Nazareth.
