CANTON, N.Y. – Morgan Smith scored an unassisted goal with one minute, 27 seconds remaining in overtime as the nationally 20th-ranked St. Lawrence men's soccer team defeated Cortland, 1-0, Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.
The Red Dragons fell to 0-2 with the setback, their second one-goal loss of the season, while the Saints evened their record at 1-1.
Junior goalie
Tim Beauvais (Hilton) kept Cortland in the contest with several outstanding saves, finishing with eight for the game. His counterpart, Aaron Costello, earned the shutout for the Saints with three saves.
After a scoreless 90 minutes of regulation, in which the Saints out shot the Red Dragons, 21-8, Morgan stole a back pass intended for Beauvais and beat the Cortland goalkeeper one-on-one to net the game-winner in the 99th minute.
