Casey Austin finished 16th out of 127 runners with a time of 26:48 over 5.2 miles
UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. – Cortland, ranked 21st nationally in Div. III and second in the Atlantic Region, finished second out of eight teams at the Penn State Spiked Shoe Invitational men's cross country collegiate race.
The Red Dragons finished with 63 points, just seven behind Div. I Bucknell University. The Penn State "B" team placed third with 73 points, followed by Johns Hopkins (99), Div. I Pittsburgh (109) and Geneseo (114) in the top six.
Cortland's top seven runners all placed in the top 36 of the 127-runner field. Junior
Nick Marcantonio (Glens Falls) finished fifth in 26 minutes, 27 seconds over a distance of 5.2 miles. Penn State's Robby Creese won in 25:50.
Senior
Pat Fannon (West Islip) finished eighth in 26:33, senior
Cody Amengual (West Babylon) was 15th in 26:46 and senior
Casey Austin (Pine Plains/Stissing Mountain) finished 16th in 26:48. Junior
Jarred Iacovelli (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) was Cortland's fifth scorer in 28th place overall (27:12).
Senior
Tim Lee (West Babylon) posted a 32nd-place finish in 27:21 and junior
Arturo Salas (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) placed 36th in 27:28.
Five other Red Dragons finished in the top half of the field. Junior
Joe Ray (Bayport/Bayport-Blue Point) was 42nd (27:33), junior
Steven Pungello (Washingtonville) finished 44th (27:37) and freshman
Chris Landi (Merrick/Calhoun) finished 54th (27:50). Freshman
Gabe Rodriguez (Geneseo) turned in a 60th-place time of 27:58 and freshman
Mitch Ryan (Plattsburgh/Seton Catholic) crossed the line 62nd in 28:00.
Cortland will host the Jack Daniels Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 21. The women's race will start at 10:30 a.m., followed by the men's race at 11:15 a.m.
