SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Cortland women's volleyball team lost a pair of four-set matches during the second day of competition at the Union College Invitational. Union defeated the Red Dragons, 27-25, 25-20, 24-26, 25-16, and Nazareth beat Cortland, 25-19, 22-25, 25-16, 25-18.
Senior
Ava Hintz (East Aurora) led the Red Dragons versus Union with 14 kills. Junior
Kelly Knauerhase (Cortland) finished with 11 kills and eight digs and senior
Aubrey Barrett (Liverpool) recorded eight kills, 31 assists and 11 digs. Barrett was named to the all-tournament team.
Senior
Krissy Silk (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) totaled a team-high 13 digs and freshman
Melanie McGuirk (Lido Beach/Kellenberg) finished with 12 digs.
Lauren Woods led Union (8-2) with 13 kills and seven blocks. Ally VanDoren and Rachel Wyman had 11 kills apiece and Marissa Vollmer amassed 21 digs.
Barrett registered a triple-double versus Nazareth with 10 kills, 20 assists and 10 digs and also totaled three blocks. Sophomore
Kim Givelechian (Roslyn Heights/Herricks) and Knauerhase had nine kills each and freshman
Samantha Czeczotka (Elwood/John H. Glenn) recorded eight kills. Givelechian led the team with 12 digs and Hintz finished with four blocks.
Freshman
Liz Roberts (Island Park/West Hempstead) finished with 15 assists. Freshman
Victoria Grix (Pearl River) had 10 digs.
Nazareth (10-2) was led by Chelsea Beecher's 16 kills and Maria Allocco's 15 kills. Madi Wickens distributed 41 assists and Maureen Thayer had 20 digs.
Cortland (5-8) returns to action Sept. 20-21 with four matches at the Elizabethtown (Pa.) Blue Jay Classic.
