CORTLAND, N.Y. – Senior
Pat Fannon (West Islip) finished first of 99 runners as the nationally 16th-ranked Cortland men's cross country team earned six of the top seven spots in easily claiming the team title at the Jack Daniels Invitational on Saturday.
The Red Dragons scored 17 points, well ahead of runner-up DeSales with 58 points. The Cortland Alumni team finished third (95) followed by Scranton (122), Mohawk Valley Community College (126), SUNY Delhi (146), Onondaga Community College (192) and Wells (236). Wells College is coached by the namesake of the race, Jack Daniels, a long-time head coach at Cortland.
Fannon took top honors with a time of 18:45.1 over the 6,000-meter course. Junior
Nick Marcantonio (Glen Falls) finished a close second, covering the distance in 18:46.8, while senior
Casey Austin (Pine Plains/Stissing Mountain) was third in 18:53.6. Cortland alum Justin Wager crossed the finish line in fourth place to break up the Red Dragons' dominance.
Senior
Tim Lee (West Babylon) placed fifth in 19:06.6, followed by senior
Cody Amengual (West Babylon) in sixth (19:08.5) and junior
Arturo Salas (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) right on his heels in seventh (19:08.7). Junior
Jarred Iacovelli (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) rounded out Cortland's top-seven runners with a ninth-place finish (19:20.9).
