Red Dragons Split Two Matches at Elizabethtown; Finish Third

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA. – The Cortland women's volleyball team defeated York College (Pa.) and lost to nationally 23rd-ranked Salisbury during the second day of competition at the Elizabethtown University Days Inn Blue Jay Classic. The Red Dragons (7-10) finished the weekend with a 2-2 record and earned third place at the tournament due to their victories over Cairn University and York.

In the win over York, 27-25, 25-15, 22-25, 25-17, sophomore Kim Givelechian (Roslyn Heights/Herricks) led the Red Dragons with 13 kills, a .500 attack percentage and three blocks. Senior Ava Hintz (East Aurora) contributed 11 kills, while senior Aubrey Barrett (Liverpool) recorded 10 kills.

Freshman setter Liz Roberts (Island Park/West Hempstead) registered 46 assists and 14 digs. Freshman Melanie McGuirk (Lido Beach/Kellenberg) paced Cortland's defensive effort with 15 digs, and freshman Samantha Czeczotka (Elwood/John H. Glenn) added 13 digs and a team-high three aces.

Cortland concluded the weekend with a 21-25, 19-25, 21-25 setback versus Salisbury. Hintz, who was named to the all-tournament team, hit .706 with 12 kills and no errors and added three blocks. McGuirk compiled 21 digs, while Roberts recorded 21 assists and Givelechian chipped in with eight kills.
