Red Dragons Win Jack Daniels Invitational

Junior Ameena Dye was Cortland's third scorer with a seventh-place finish
CORTLAND, N.Y. - Senior Emily Cotey (Norwood/Norwood-Norfolk) finished first in a field of 84 runners at the six-team Jack Daniels Invitational, hosted by Cortland. The nationally 34th-ranked Red Dragons finished first in the team standings with 23 points, followed by Scranton (44), Ithaca (90), Wells (117), Mohawk Valley Community College (132) and SUNY Delhi (151). Wells College is coached by the race's namesake, Jack Daniels, a long-time head coach at Cortland.

Cotey covered the 4,000-meter course in 14:43.4. Sophomore Kerri Culhane (Sayville) placed fifth in 15:26.9. Cortland's final three scorers finished within 2.4 seconds of each other. Junior Ameena Dye (DeWitt/Jamesville-DeWitt) crossed the finish line in seventh place (15:34.0), followed closely by senior Colleen Fischman (Orchard Park/Hamburg) in eighth (15:35.0) and sophomore Kayla Blomback (Orchard Park) in ninth (15:36.4).

Rounding out Cortland's top seven finishers were senior Dayna Eikeseth (Staten Island/Tottenville) in 13th place (15:48.2) and sophomore Danika Ortiz (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) in 14th place (15:49.5).
