MONTCLAIR, N.J. – Mike Olla scored in the 70th minute to break a 3-3 tie and nationally 11th-ranked Montclair State went on to defeat visiting Cortland, 5-3, in a night contest at the MSU Soccer Park. The Red Hawks remained unbeaten  at 4-0. Cortland dropped to 1-3, with two of its losses to ranked teams.

Cortland trailed 3-0 less than 22 minutes into the contest before rallying to knot the contest. Sophomore Alex Wilson (Cicero/Cicero-North Syracuse) scored off an assist from sophomore Robby Reiser (Melville/Half Hollow Hills East) in the 23rd minute to put the Red Dragons on the board. Wilson's shot from just inside the top of the box found the lower left corner of the net.

Junior Darren McCormack's (Dublin, Ireland/Fingal Community) scored on a penalty kick in the 65th minute to draw Cortland within 3-2. Junior Matt Williams (Cobleskill/Cobleskill-Richmondville) tied the game with an unassisted goal in the 67th minute when he converted a shot from the right top side of the box after a failed clear.

Olla scored the game-winning goal when his shot from the top of the box toward the left side of the cage went past diving Cortland goalie Tim Beauvais (Hilton). Brian Cullen added an insurance goal, off a feed from Dan Mendoza, in the 83rd minute.

Trey Leggett opened the scoring for Montclair in the 10th minute with a header off a free kick by Lucas Terci. Cullen tallied the first of his two goals in the 17th mintute off a scramble in front of the net, and Brendan Guzman made it 3-0 in the 22nd minute when he took a pass from Leggett and blasted the ball to the left corner of the net.

Montclair outshot Cortland by a 24-12 count. Beauvais made a season-high 10 saves for the Red Dragons, while Montclair netminder Frank Buchel stopped two shots on goal.

Cortland returns to action on Wednesday, September 11, at Ithaca at 4 p.m.
