OSWEGO, N.Y. – Senior
Emily Cotey (Norwood/Norwood-Norfolk) captured first place at the season-opening Oswego Don Masterson Invitational to lead the Red Dragons to a second-place finish out of 12 teams. Cotey, who led almost the entire race, completed the 5,000-meter course in 18:40.0, finished 7.9 seconds in front of the runner-up competitor.
As a team, Cortland scored 43 points, trailing only Ithaca College's 26 points. Rochester finished third with 77 points, followed by Oswego and St. John Fisher each with 127 points.
Sophomore
Kerri Culhane (Sayville) placed fifth overall in 19:14.9 as Cortland's second scorer. Sophomore
Kayla Blomback (Orchard Park) crossed the finish line in 10th place (19:26.7), followed by junior
Ameena Dye (DeWitt/Jamesville-DeWitt) in 12th (19:31.6). Senior
Colleen Fischman (Buffalo/Hamburg) was Cortland's fifth scorer, finishing 15th overall in 19:43.2).
Rounding out Cortland's top-seven runners were sophomore
Michelyn Little (Voorheesville/Clayton A. Bouton) in 16th (19:44.8) and sophomore
Kailyn Balzano (East Greenbush/Columbia) in 28th (20:08.1).
