Vancol Wins Shot Put, One of Three ECAC Qualifiers at Cornell Southern Tier Meet

Valerie Vancol won the shot put and placed fourth in the weight throw
ITHACA, N.Y. – Junior Valerie Vancol (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) won the shot put and was one of three Cortland athletes to register ECAC-qualifying performances at the Cornell University Southern Tier Collegiate Open. The meet featured Div. I schools Cornell, Binghamton and Canisius and Div. II Mansfield among its competitors. There was no team scoring.

Vancol finished first of 15 in the shot put with a distance of 11.63 meters (38' 2"). Freshman Amanda Moore (Massapequa) qualified for ECACs with her third-place time of 7.93 seconds in the 60-meter dash and senior Lisa Bodratti (Valatie/Ichabod Crane) turned in a ECAC-qualifying prelim time of 9.27 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles. She placed sixth in the finals in 9.34 seconds.

Vancol also finished fourth in the weight throw at 12.47 meters (40' 11") and Moore was ninth of 35 in the 200-meter dash in 27.32 seconds. Moore was one of five Cortland entries to finish in the top half of the 200-meter field. Freshman Dana Kupiec (Salem) placed 10th (27.40), junior Taylor Hudson (Victor) was 12th (27.51), Bodratti finished 14th (27.64) and junior Hannah Anthes (Liverpool) was 17th (28.11).

Hudson tied for sixth place of 16 in the high jump by clearing 1.55 meters (5' 1") and sophomore Saige Thomas (Elmira/Elmira Free Academy) finished seventh of 15 in the 400-meter dash (1:03.58). Sophomore Kayla Blomback (Orchard Park) was eighth of 18 in the mile (5:19.07) and 11th of 23 in the 800 meters (2:30.33), while sophomore Angelique Jean-Charles (Elmont/Valley Stream) finished eighth in the 60-meter hurdles (10.53 seconds, 9.74 in prelims).

Cortland returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 25, at the Cornell Upstate Challenge at 9:30 a.m.
