CORTLAND, N.Y. - Six different players scored goals as the Elmira men's hockey team defeated Cortland, 7-5, Tuesday night in non-conference action at Alumni Arena. The Red Dragons fell to 4-9-2, while the Soaring Eagles improved to 8-6.

Senior Adam Bevilacqua (Toronto, ON/St. Norbert) led Cortland with two goals and one assist. Junior Nick Zappia (Manlius/Kingston Voyageurs) recorded one goal and two assists, junior Christopher Marinakos (Orillia, ON/Brockport) added one goal and one assist and sophomore Sam Pinsler (Chicago, IL/Green Mountain Glades) netted his first career goal. Sophomore Ryan Wagner (Buffalo/Aberdeen Wings) collected two assists, and senior Mike Henrici (North Haven, CT/Manhattanville) and freshman Casie Garrison (Cortland/Philadelphia Revolution) each chipped in with one assist.

Senior goalie Mark Balkwill (Saskatoon, SK/Broome C.C.) started in net, making 35 saves in 49 minutes, 12 seconds. Senior Lyle Rocker (Buffalo/Wisconsin-River Falls) took over midway through the third period and stopped all three shots he faces in 8:56.

Senior Jesper Strale (Uppsala, Sweden/Springfield Pics) paced Elmira's offense with one goal and three assists. Sophomore Michael Collins (Victoria, BC/Dauphin Kings) registered two goals, while four others netted one goal apiece. Sophomore Liam Burtt (Manotick, ON/Ottawa Jr. Senators) contributed two assists, and three players added one assist each. Freshman goalie Sal Magliocco (Roslyn/NY Apple Core) turned aside 33 shots.

The Red Dragons took a 3-1 lead after the first period, but Elmira netted three goals in the second period for a 4-3 advantage. The Soaring Eagles pushed the lead to 7-4 with three goals in just over a five-minute span before Cortland completed the scoring at 19:25 with an extra skater on the ice.
