M.K. Dugue won the 50-yard freestyle and swam a leg on the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team
TROY, N.Y. – Sophomore
Miranda Fergus (Millbrook) set pool records in both diving events and three other Red Dragons won individual titles as Cortland finished first at the RPI Women's Swimming and Diving Invitational.
Cortland finished with 415.5 points and has now won the team title at the event six of the last eight years. RPI placed second with 358.5 points, followed by William Smith (249), Skidmore (209) and Cobleskill (62) in the 5-team field.
The competition was also scored as dual meets between each of the schools. Cortland finished 4-0 with win over the other four schools.
Fergus posted winning scores of 277.65 points in 1-meter diving and 283.95 points in 3-meter diving. In addition to setting school records, Fergus has now also secured her spot on both boards for NCAA regionals.
Sophomore
Chelsey Simon (Oneida) won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:16.67 and finished second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:20.58). Senior
M.K. Dugue (Binghamton/Chenango Forks) won the 50-yard freestyle (26.17) and senior
Sarah Culmo (West Islip) finished first in the 100-yard freestyle (55.33).
Cortland also won both relay events. Freshman
Angelica Ford (Elk Grove Village, IL), junior
Michaela Auer (Oswego), senior
Chrisanna Hickey (Hopewell Junction/John Jay East Fishkill) and Culmo captured the 400-yard medley relay (4:15.98), while Culmo, Hickey, Dugue and senior
Caitlin Lanigan (West Seneca/West Seneca West) won the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:48.65).
Lanigan was runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle (5:35.75), junior
Krista Caputo (Staten Island/Curtis) finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.25) and sophomore
Katie Cornetta (Gardner, MA) tied for second in the 50-yard freestyle (26.37). Cornetta also finished third in the 500-yard freestyle (5:37.72).
Ford was third in both the 200-yard freestyle (2:05.60) and 200-yard backstroke (2:18.42). Auer finished third in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:39.09) and freshman
Emily McGurk (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) was third in the 100-yard freestyle (57.85).
Turning in fourth-place finishes were freshman
Amanda Grossman (Schaghticoke/Hoosic Valley) in the 200-yard backstroke (2:19.82) and freshman
Kelly Lambkin (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:45.62).
Cortland will host Oswego in a dual meet on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 4 p.m.
