Red Dragons Finish Home Season With 152-84 Win vs. Oswego

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland women's swimming and diving team completed its home dual-meet schedule with a 152-84 victory over Oswego. Junior Michaela Auer (Oswego) and sophomore Miranda Fergus (Millbrook) each won two events to lead the Red Dragons in the triumph.

Auer captured the 100-yard freestyle (57.02) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.75). Fergus won both diving events; she scored 265.20 points on the 1-meter board and 273.90 points on the 3-meter board.

Five other Red Dragons won individual events versus the Lakers. Sophomore Chelsey Simon (Oneida) won the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.90) and placed second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:34.03). Sophomore Katie Cornetta (Gardner, MA) took the 50-yard freestyle (25.73) and was second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.42).

Senior Chrisanna Hickey (Hopewell Junction/John Jay East Fishkill) was the winner in the 400-yard individual medley (4:52.06) and freshman Amanda Grossman (Schaghticoke/Hoosic Valley) won the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.71). Senior Sarah Culmo (West Islip) was victorious in the 500-yard freestyle (5:31.52).

Cortland's 200-yard freestyle relay team of senior Francesca Davide (Ossining), senior Caitlin Lanigan (West Seneca/West Seneca West), Culmo and junior Krista Caputo (Staten Island/Curtis) finished first as an exhibition entry in 1:48.01. The Red Dragons also had the second-best time in the event as Cornetta, freshman Emily McGurk (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury), sophomore Ally Baraban (Melville/Half Hollow Hills East) and freshman Angelica Ford (Elk Grove Village, IL) finished in 1:48.81, also as an exhibition entry.

Senior M.K. Dugue (Binghamton/Chenango Forks) finished second in both the 50-yard freestyle (26.05) and 100-yard freestyle (59.26) and senior Lindsay Wigderson (Webster/Webster Thomas) was runner-up in 1-meter diving (226.75 points) and 3-meter diving (247.75 points).

Junior Kara Mance (Poughkeepsie/Arlington) finished second in the 1,650-yard freestyle (19:38.42), Lanigan was second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:05.39) and Davide placed second in the 400-yard individual medley (5:09.05). Ford was second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:07.52), and the 200-yard medley relay team of Ford, freshman Kelly Lambkin (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury), Simon and Dugue placed second in 2:00.45.

Cortland (8-3) will compete at Oneonta on Saturday, Feb. 1, at 1 p.m. in a make-up of a meet postponed in mid-December.
