Cortland Women Register 11 ECAC Qualifying Efforts at Cornell Upstate Challenge

ITHACA, N.Y. – Cortland competitors posted 11 ECAC-qualifying efforts at the Cornell University Upstate Challenge women's indoor track and field meet.

The eight-team field consisted of six Div. I schools. Cornell finished first in the team scoring with 162 points, followed by the University at Buffalo (116), Albany (101), Syracuse (66), Binghamton (37), Ithaca (22), Cortland (12) and Colgate (8).

Senior Sarah Bonnell (Norwich) hit ECAC marks in two events. She was fourth of 22 in the long jump at 5.37 meters (17' 7.5") and 16th of 52 in the 200-meter dash in 26.71 seconds. Also reaching ECAC marks in the 200 meters were freshman Dana Kupiec (Salem) in 18th place (27.01) and freshman Amanda Moore (Massapequa) in 19th place (27.08).

Sophomore Kayla Blomback (Orchard Park) finished 10th of 38 in the mile run in 5:09.44. She currently ranks 14th nationally in Div. III in the event with her time converted to 5:06.41 for a banked track.

Senior Kelly Hugo (Highland) ended third in a field of 27 competitors in the pole vault by clearing 3.45 meters (11' 3.75") and junior Valerie Vancol (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) was sixth in the shot put with a distance of 11.75 meters (38' 6.75").

Senior Lisa Bodratti (Valatie/Ichabod Crane) qualified for the finals in the 60-meter hurdles with a seventh-place preliminary time of 9.16 seconds, but she did not compete in the championship heat. Senior Alex Budd (Riverhead) finished 10th in the high jump at 1.60 meters (5' 3").

Junior Taylor Hudson (Victor) finished fourth in the pentathlon with a score of 3,009 points. She reached ECAC standards in two of her five events – she covered 5.15 meters (16' 10.75") in the long jump and cleared 1.64 meters (5' 4.5") in the high jump.

Cortland returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 1, at the Cornell Kane Invitational.
