Red Dragon Men Lose at NYU in First Dual of Season

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Cortland men's swimming and diving team opened the 2014-15 season with a 193-87 dual-meet loss versus New York University at the Palladium Athletic Facility in Manhattan.

Junior Reeve Callen (Oswego) finished second in the 100-yard freestyle in 48.73 seconds. Senior Mark Hanifin (Fort Plain) placed third in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:36.53) and 500-yard freestyle (5:08.77), junior Jack Jakubek (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) was third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.32), and junior Mathew Hasbrouck (New Paltz) posted the third fastest-time in the 100-yard butterfly (54.25).

The Red Dragons' 200-yard medley relay team of sophomore Dylan Burns (Cornwall), Jakubek, Hasbrouck and Callen finished second in 1:38.72, and the 400-yard freestyle relay squad of senior Luke Strothenke (New Paltz), freshman Brendin Thompson (Pine Bush), Hanifin and Hasbrouck placed second in 3:19.68.

Cortland's next competition is a home dual meet versus Ithaca College on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 1 p.m.
