Mitch Ryan was Cortland's fourth finisher with an 18th-place time of 26:23 over 8,000 meters
PITTSBURGH, PA. – The Cortland men's cross country team finished in second place out of 14 teams at the Carnegie Mellon University Invitational. The Red Dragons, ranked fifth in the Atlantic Region, posted a score of 48 points, seven behind the nationally 24th-ranked host school's winning total of 41.
Cedarville University (68), a Carnegie Mellon alumni team (93) and Penn St Behrend (156) rounded out the top five in the team standings.
Senior
Nick Marcantonio (Glens Falls) finished second out of 177 runners on the 8,000-meter course with a time of 25 minutes, 12 seconds. Clay Watson of Cedarville won the race in 25:06.
Marcantonio was one of three Red Dragons to place in the top seven. Seniors
Steven Pungello (Washingtonville) and
Jarred Iacovelli (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) finished sixth and seventh, respectively, less than a second apart. Pungello was officially timed 25:50.1 and Iacovelli in 25:50.7.
The remainder of Cortland's top seven all finished in the top 40. Sophomore
Mitch Ryan (Plattsburgh/Seton Catholic) crossed the line 18th in 26:23 and freshman
Jesse Perrone (East Syracuse/East Syracuse Minoa) was 22nd in 26:28. Senior
Joe Ray (Bayport/Bayport-Blue Point) ended 25th in 26:31 and sophomore
Alex Hall (Caledonia/Caledonia-Mumford) finished 39th in 27:02.
Cortland will compete in Pennsylvania for the third straight week when it runs at the Lafayette University Leopard Invitational in Easton on Saturday, Oct. 18.
