NEW YORK, N.Y. – Junior Miranda Fergus (Pleasant Valley/Millbrook) won the 1-meter diving competition as Cortland began its 2014-15 women's swimming and diving season with a 193-87 dual-meet loss to New York University at the Palladium Athletic Facility in Manhattan.

Fergus, an honorable mention All-American on the 1-meter board last season, posted a score of 278.40 points to win the event by more than 20 points. She also finished third on the 3-meter board with 254.03 points.

Also for the Red Dragons, junior Chelsey Simon (Oneida) recorded a third-place effort in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:28.41 and sophomore Angelica Ford (Chicago, IL/Elk Grove Village) had the third-best time in the 200-yard individual medley at 2:23.00.

Cortland's next competition is a home dual meet versus Ithaca College on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 1 p.m.
