EASTON, PA. – Cortland runners claimed five of the top seven spots as the nationally 35th-ranked Red Dragons dominated the field at the Lafayette College Leopard Invitational men's cross country race.
The meet was officially scored as two races, with Cortland winning the Division II and III portion with a perfect 15 points. If the six-school meet had been scored as a combined event among all divisions, Cortland still would have won with 19 points, followed by American (48), Seton Hall (90), Oswego (96), Lafayette (98) and DeSales (165).
Senior
Nick Marcantonio (Glens Falls) won the 8,000-meter race in 26 minutes, 27 seconds. Sophomore
Mitch Ryan (Plattsburgh/Seton Catholic) was runner-up in 26:40, with senior
Jarred Iacovelli (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) close behind in third place at 26:41.
Following runners from American and Lafayette, senior
Steven Pungello (Washingtonville) finished in sixth place in 27:17 and senior
Joe Ray (Bayport/Bayport-Blue Point) was seventh in 27:21. Sophomore
Alex Hall (Caledonia/Caledonia-Mumford) also turned in a top-12 finish in the 63-runner field with an 11th-place effort of 27:38.
Cortland, ranked fifth in the Atlantic Region, will compete at the Cornell John Reif Memorial Run on Friday, Oct. 24 at 5 p.m.
