Megan Wagner was one of seven Cortland runners to finish in the top 20 with a 19th-place effort
EASTON, PA. – Cortland's top six runners finished among the top 13 spots as the nationally 25th-ranked Red Dragons finished first at the Lafayette College Leopard Invitational women's cross country race.
In the official scoring, Cortland was first among two schools in the Division II and III combined standings with a perfect 15 points. When considering all five schools, including three Division I entries, Cortland still would have won the meet with 43 points, followed by American (46), Lafayette (70), Seton Hall (85) and Oswego (116).
Junior
Kailyn Balzano (East Greenbush/Columbia) and junior
Kerri Culhane (Sayville) were the top runners for the Red Dragons, who are sixth in the latest Atlantic Region team rankings. Balzano covered the 6,000-meter course in 24 minutes, one second for a sixth-place finish, with Culhane right behind her in 24:02 for seventh place. Seton Hall's Christiana Rutkowski won the race in 22:58.
Senior
Ameena Dye (DeWitt/Jamesville-DeWitt) led a pack of three Cortland runners with a ninth-place time of 24:08. Junior
Michelyn Little (Voorheesville/Clayton A. Bouton) was 10th in 24:10 and junior
Kayla Blomback (Orchard Park) placed 11th in 24:13. Sophomore
Allison Schumann (North Salem) finished in 13th place (24:31) and freshman
Megan Wagner (Niskayuna) was 19th (25:15) in the 57-runner field.
Cortland will compete at the Cornell John Reif Memorial Run on Friday, Oct. 24 at 4:30 p.m.
