ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The nationally 27th-ranked Cortland women's cross country team finished fourth out of 40 teams with 189 points at the NCAA Div. III Atlantic Regional Championships Saturday afternoon at Genesee Valley Park in Rochester.
St. Lawrence narrowly won the meet with 50 points, followed by Geneseo with 51 points. Those two programs earned automatic berths into the NCAA Div. III Championships next Saturday in Mason, Ohio. The Red Dragons are still alive for an at-large bid as 16 teams from eight regions are chosen. Oneonta finished third with 120 points, followed by Cortland and Ithaca in fifth place (210 points).
Juniors
Michelyn Little (Voorheesville/Clayton A. Bouton) and
Kayla Blomback (Orchard Park) each earned all-region honors by placing in the top 35. Little finished 31st overall, recording a time of 22:39.8 over the 6,000-meter course, while Blomback was right on her heels, earning a 33rd-place finish in 22:41.8. Junior Amy Regan of Stevens Institute won the individual title in 21:05.8.
Cortland's other three scoring competitors were senior
Ameena Dye (DeWitt/Jamesville-DeWitt) in 36th place (22:43.5), junior
Kerri Culhane (Sayville) in 44th place (22:55.6) and junior
Kailyn Balzano (East Greenbush/Columbia) in 45th place (22:57.7).
Rounding out Cortland's runners were sophomore
Allison Schumann (North Salem) in 64th place (23:21.5) and freshman
Megan Wagner (Niskayuna) in 81st place (23:38.0).
A total of 272 runners competed.
