Callen Wins Two Individual Events, Part of Winning Relay in Home Loss to Ithaca

Reeve Callen finished first in the 1,000-yard and 500-yard freestyle races
CORTLAND, N.Y. – Junior Reeve Callen (Oswego) won two events and was part of a winning relay team during Cortland's 196-91 home dual-meet loss to Ithaca College.

Callen won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:09.12 and the 500-yard freestyle in 4:56.20. He also finished second in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.01 seconds as he was nipped at the finish wall by one hundredth of a second.

Sophomore Dylan Burns (Cornwall), Callen, senior Luke Strothenke (New Paltz) and senior Mark Hanifin (Fort Plain) won the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:14.68. Hanifin finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.43) and Strothenke was second in the 100-yard backstroke (56.85).

Also for the Red Dragons (0-2), junior Jack Jakubek (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.25), senior Alex Spatzer (Buffalo/Kenmore West) was second in the 100-yard butterfly (55.30) and freshman Jason Rivera (Slate Hill/Minisink Valley) finished second in both 1-meter (162.30 points) and 3-meter (230.30 points) diving. The 400-yard medley relay team of Burns, Jakubek, senior Brandon McManus (Pittsford/Pittsford Mendon) and Hanifin finished second in 3:38.41.

Cortland will travel to Geneseo for a dual meet next Saturday at 1 p.m.
