Simon a Double Winner for Red Dragon Women in Loss to Ithaca

Chelsey Simon earned wins in the 200-yard and 100-yard butterfly events
CORTLAND, N.Y. – Junior Chelsey Simon (Oneida) posted a pair of individual victories during Cortland's 207-93 dual-meet loss to visiting Ithaca College.

Simon touched the wall first in both 200-yard butterfly (2:14.74) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.77). Senior Krista Caputo (Staten Island/Curtis) took top honors in the 500-yard freestyle (5:25.91) and junior Miranda Fergus (Pleasant Valley/Millbrook) won the 1-meter diving competition (251.75 points).

Fergus also was second in 3-meter diving (254.80 points) and Caputo was runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.80), losing by less than three tenths of a second. Sophomore Amanda Grossman (Schaghticoke/Hoosic Valley) finished second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.55), senior Lauren Kaplowitz (Stamford, CT/Westhill) placed second in the 50-yard freestyle (25.78) and sophomore Angelica Ford (Chicago, IL/Elk Grove Village) finished second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:25.71).

Also for Cortland, the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Grossman, senior Ashley Sherard (Valley Stream), Simon and Kaplowitz finished second in 3:48.38.

Cortland will compete in a dual meet at Geneseo next Saturday at 1 p.m.
