ITHACA, N.Y. – Cortland registered 13 ECAC-qualifying performances, including two each by junior
Taylor Hudson's (Victor), senior
Kelly Hugo (Highland) and freshman
Amanda Moore (Massapequa), at the Cornell University Kane Invitational women's indoor track and field meet.
Hudson placed second of 14 in the high jump at 1.60 meters (5' 3") and fifth of 25 in the long jump at 5.20 meters (17' 0.75"). Hugo hit ECAC marks with her third-place pole vault of 3.45 meters (11' 3.75") and her sixth-place long jump of 5.17 meters (16' 11.5"), while Moore was fifth of 37 in the 60-meter dash (7.91) and 13th of 45 in the 200-meter dash (26.86).
Senior
Sarah Bonnell (Norwich) posted a time of 7.88 seconds in the 60-meter dash preliminaries, then finished seventh in the finals (8.87). As of Saturday night, Bonnell ranks 12th and Moore 17th nationally in Div. III in the 60-meter dash.
Junior
Valerie Vancol (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) finished third of 20 in the shot put with an ECAC distance of 11.62 meters (38' 1.5") and sophomore
Kayla Blomback (Orchard Park) was fourth of 22 in the 3,000 meters with an ECAC time of 10:34.17. Senior
Colleen Fischman (Orchard Park/Hamburg) placed seventh in the 3,000 meters in 10:45.21, which converts to an ECAC qualifiying time for banked tracks.
Cortland's other ECAC qualifiers included: freshman
Kelly Paris (Amsterdam) in the 500 meters (ninth of 25 in 1:22.87); sophomore
Kailyn Balzano (East Greenbush/Columbia) in the 800 meters (ninth of 34 in 2:21.80); and the 4x400-meter relay team of freshman
Dana Kupiec (Salem), junior
Gabrielle Conant (Tully), junior
Kiersten Duroe (Horseheads) and senior
Africa Harper (Bronx/John F. Kennedy) (third of 14 in 4:08.28).
Also in the top 10, although missing ECAC qualifying, were: Vancol in fifth place in the weight throw (12.58 meters – 41' 3.25"); sophomore
Kerri Culhane (Sayville) in eighth place in the 3,000 meters (10:50.94); sophomore
Carla Auguste (Brooklyn/Midwood) in eighth in the triple jump (10.48 meters – 34' 4.75"); and freshman
Diamond Jackson (Farmingville/Sachem East) ninth in the shot put (10.60 meters – 34' 9.5").
Cortland will compete at the Ithaca College Bomber Quad Meet on Friday, Feb. 7.
