Red Dragon Women Turn in Numerous Solid Performances at Ithaca Bomber Invitational

Hannah Anthes was one of five Red Dragons to register an ECAC-qualifying time in the 200-meter dash
ITHACA, N.Y. – Junior Taylor Hudson (Victor) recorded three of Cortland's 16 ECAC-qualifying results at the Ithaca College Bomber Invitational and Multi-Event women's indoor track and field meet.

Hudson was runner-up in both the high jump at 1.64 meters (5' 4.5") and the long jump at 5.43 meters (17' 9.75") and finished seventh in the 200-meter dash (26.77). She was one of five Red Dragons to post ECAC-qualifying times in the 200. Freshman Amanda Moore (Massapequa) finished fifth in the 78-sprinter field in 26.68 seconds. Freshman Dana Kupiec (Salem) was ninth (26.89), senior Africa Harper (Bronx/John F. Kennedy) finished 10th (26.97) and junior Hannah Anthes (Liverpool) was 13th (27.23).

Sophomore Kailyn Balzano (East Greenbush/Columbia) and sophomore Kayla Blomback (Orchard Park) claimed the top two spots out of 61 competitors in the 800 meters. Balzano won the event in 2:19.93 and Blomback was second in 2:20.09. Junior Ameena Dye (DeWitt/Jamesville-DeWitt) won the 5,000 meters in a field of 26 runners in 18:39.54.

Junior Valerie Vancol (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) finished second out of 46 in the shot put with a distance of 12.39 meters (40' 7.75"). Senior Sarah Bonnell (Norwich) placed fifth in the long jump at 5.31 meters (17' 5.25").

In the 60-meter hurdles, senior Lisa Bodratti (Valatie/Ichabod Crane) finished fourth in 9.31 seconds. Sophomore Kerri Culhane (Sayville) placed sixth in the 3,000 meters (10:43.24).

Cortland also recorded ECAC qualifying times in two relays. The 4x200-meter relay team of Moore, Kupiec, Harper and junior Gabrielle Conant (Tully) finished first in 1:45.39. The 4x400-meter relay quartet of Kupiec, Conant, junior Kiersten Duroe (Horseheads) and Harper placed second in 4:04.98.

Other Cortland highlights, although not ECAC qualifiers, included: a fifth-place effort by Duroe (1:01.74) and a sixth-place finish by freshman Kelly Paris (Amsterdam) (1:02.28) in the 400-meter dash; a seventh-place showing by sophomore Angelique Jean-Charles (Elmont/Valley Stream) in the 60-meter hurdles (9.57); and a sixth-place finish by sophomore Kayla Koelbel (Bradford, PA/Kings Park (NY)) in the pentathlon (2,802 points). Koelbel scored 765 points with a second-place time of 9.72 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles and 632 points with a tie for sixth in the high jump at 1.51 meters (4' 11.5").

Cortland will compete at the Cornell Deneault Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 10 a.m.
