Sarah Culmo (West Islip) won a league title in the 50-yard freestyle for the third straight year to highlight Cortland's performances during the first complete day of competition at the 2014 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's Swimming and Diving Championships.
Cortland is second in the team standings with 190 points. Geneseo leads with 270 points, followed by Cortland, New Paltz (138), Fredonia (136) and Oneonta (119) in the top five of the nine-team field. The competition continues on Friday and Saturday at the Burt Flickinger Center at Erie Community College.
Culmo captured the 50-yard freestyle crown with an NCAA "B" cut time of 23.82 seconds. She also won the event in 2013 and 2012 and was second in 2011. Junior
Krista Caputo (Staten Island/Curtis) finished third in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:08.47. All individual champions at the meet earn first-team All-SUNYAC honors. Second-place and third-place individual finishers are awarded second-team all-league status.

M.K. Dugue (Binghamton/Chenango Forks) and Auer was clocked in a dead heat with Brockport for second at 1:37.01 after posting the best prelim time of 1:36.58.

Miranda Fergus (Millbrook) finished fifth in 3-meter diving with 402.10 points and senior
Lindsay Wigderson (Webster/Webster Thomas) placed seventh with 376.30 points. In the 50-yard freestyle, Auer finished sixth (24.68) and Dugue placed eighth (24.79, 24.64 in prelims).
Two Red Dragons – sophomore
Chelsey Simon (Oneida) in the 500-yard freestyle (5:14.13) and Hickey in the 200-yard individual medley (2:11.43) - each finished first in the "B" finals of their events for ninth-place overall showings. Other Red Dragons scorers included: senior
Caitlin Lanigan (West Seneca/West Seneca West) in 10th place in the 500-yard freestyle (5:14.39); Cornetta in 10th place in the 50-yard freestyle (24.83); and Ford in 12th place in the 200-yard individual medley (2:13.58).
