Cortland Falls at Oswego, 60-41, in SUNYAC Contest

OSWEGO, N.Y. – Daniel Ross scored 26 points, including 4-of-5 shooting from 3-point distance, as Oswego defeated visiting Cortland, 60-41, in a SUNYAC contest.

Oswego upped its record to 14-7 overall and 8-6 in the SUNYAC and is in fourth place in the conference, a half game ahead of fifth-place Oneonta (8-7). Cortland fell to 12-9 overall and 7-7 in the league and is tied for sixth place with Buffalo State with four games left. The top six teams qualify for the SUNYAC postseason tournament.

Ross also finished with four steals, three assists and five rebounds. Elijah McLaurin added 11 points and four assists, Kyle Covley scored eight points and dished out five assists and Rashawn Powell contributed eight points and seven rebounds.

Sophomore T.J. Hefele (Greenlawn/Friends Academy) led Cortland with 10 points and junior Lamard Herron (Westbury) finished with nine points on 3-of-7 accuracy from 3-point range. Senior Kevin McMahon (Hoosick Falls) led the team with 10 rebounds and senior Garen Spendjian (Glen Cove) scored seven points off the bench.

Cortland was held to its lowest point total since a 69-41 loss at Buffalo State on Feb. 1, 1997. The Red Dragons shot 33 percent from the field overall, just 19 percent (4-of-21) from the arc and 43 percent (3-of-7) from the foul line. Oswego made 44 percent of its shots, 37 percent (7-of-19) from three, and was 11-of-17 from the line.

Oswego led 17-14 with 4:12 in the first half before finishing the period on an 8-2 run to take a 25-16 halftime advantage. The Lakers led by double figures for the game's final 16:17, including a 24-point margin with 1:07 left. Cortland scored six of the last seven points, all by freshman Chris Williams (Bronx/Riverdale Kingsbridge Academy).

Cortland will play at Plattsburgh on Friday, Feb. 14, at 8 p.m.
