Diver Miranda Fergus Earns Trip to NCAA Div. III Championships

Miranda Fergus finished third out of 24 competitors on the 1-meter board to earn her spot at nationals
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Cortland sophomore Miranda Fergus (Millbrook) earned a trip to the NCAA Div. III Swimming and Diving Championships with her performance at the NCAA Div. III Region 4 Diving Regional, hosted by Rochester Institute of Technology Friday and Saturday.

Fergus finished third out of 24 competitors on the 1-meter board Friday with a score of 385.55 points. She placed 11th on the 3-meter board Saturday with 374.45 points.

Following the competition, seven divers were chosen to advance to nationals, which will be held March 19-22 at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind. The qualifiers were chosen by alternating between the highest finisher on Day 1 and the highest finisher on Day 2, skipping divers who had already been chosen.

Fredonia's Ashley Keller finished first on both boards and Ithaca's Nickie Griesemer was second on both boards, leaving Fergus as the third qualifier of the seven to be chosen. Pending NCAA approval, she will advance to nationals and will compete on both boards.

The regional qualifier was one of four held over the weekend nationally. The format is in its second year at the NCAA Div. III level this season.

This year's seven regional qualifiers were: Keller; Griesemer; Fergus; Katelyn Haley (Fredonia); Heather Markus (Ithaca); Sam Huselstein (RIT); and Danielle Neu (Rochester).
