Melique Garcia finished fourth in the 200-meter dash to earn All-America recognition
LINCOLN, NEB. - Cortland senior
Melique Garcia (Watervliet) earned All-America honors in the 200-meter dash with his fourth-place finish during the final day of competition at the NCAA Div. III Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Garcia finished the race in 21.73 seconds, a hundredth of a second ahead of the fifth-place sprinter. Thurgood Dennis of Wisconsin-Eau Claire won the race in 21.27 seconds. The top eight finishers are All-Americans in each event; Garcia was one of eight sprinters to qualify for the finals out of Friday's prelims.
Also on Saturday, junior
Glen Forsythe (Uniondale) placed 11th in the triple jump with a distance of 14.02 meters (46' 0"). Jamie Ruginski of Southern Maine won at 15.28 meters (50' 1.75").
Cortland finished with six team points - five by Garcia in the 200 meters and one by Forsythe with his eight-place showing in the long jump Friday. The Red Dragons tied for 34th in the final team standings. Wisconsin-La Crosse won the team title with 63.5 points.
