MT. SINAI, N.Y. – Sophomore
Erica Geremia (Camillus/West Genesee) tallied a career-high 10 points on a career-best six goals and four assists to lead the nationally fourth-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team to a 20-3 win against Catholic University Saturday afternoon at Mt. Sinai High School.

Clair Schmitzer, Madeline Nowakowski and Jenna Van Middelem each notched a goal for the Cardinals (3-1). Goalie Tricia Pehnke made six saves in 38:54, and Yasmeen Ajdari stopped one shot in 21:06. Alexis Martin collected four ground balls and Schmitzer and Caroline DiBartolomeo registered three caused turnovers apiece.
The Red Dragons took command by scoring the first nine goals of the game in the opening 19:22. Geremia collected four goals and two assists and Monaghan scored twice during the run. Van Middelem ended the streak with a goal at 8:20 and Schmitzer found the back of the net just 14 seconds later to make it a 9-2 game. Cortland then reeled off four straight goals from four different players to close the half with a 13-2 lead.
The Red Dragons stretched their lead to 19-2 by opening the second half with six consecutive goals as Geremia picked up two more scores to hit the 10-point mark with 21:13 remaining in the game. Nowakowski tallied her goal at 12:32, and sophomore
Elise Bennett (Webster/Webster Thomas) closed the scoring for Cortland with a goal at 2:08 for the 20-3 final.
