Cortland Women Sixth at ECAC Championships; Two School Records Fall

Dana Kupiec ran the second leg on Cortland's 4x200-meter relay team that set a new school record of 1:42.90
BOSTON, MASS. – Cortland finished in sixth place out of 62 scoring teams at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Div. III Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Amherst won a tight team race with 38 points, followed by MIT (36.5), St. Lawrence (36), Rowan (35), NYU (33), Cortland (32) and Ithaca (31.5). Rounding out the top 10 were Oneonta (27), Wheaton (Mass.) (26) and Stevens Institute (25).

Cortland set two school records during the competition. The 4x200-meter relay team of freshman Amanda Moore (Massapequa), freshman Dana Kupiec (Salem), senior Africa Harper (Bronx/John F. Kennedy) and junior Taylor Hudson (Victor) finished second in 1:42.90. The previous school record was 1:43.94 set by Stephanie Bailey, Kerri Gannon, Crystal Hirsch and Kissie Pringle in 2002.

Sophomore Angelique Jean-Charles (Elmont/Valley Stream) broke her own school record in the 60-meter hurdles with her prelim time of 9.05 seconds. She set the record last week in 9.08 seconds. Jean-Charles finished fifth in the finals in 9.15 seconds.

Hudson finished second in the long jump at 5.54 meters (18' 2.25"), with senior Sarah Bonnell (Norwich) placing fifth at 5.30 meters (17' 4.75"). Cortland's other points came from the distance medley relay team of sophomore Kerri Culhane (Sayville), junior Gabrielle Conant (Tully), sophomore Kailyn Balzano (East Greenbush/Columbia) and sophomore Kayla Blomback (Rochester/Gates Chili) that finished second in 12:16.95.

Senior Lisa Bodratti (Valtaie/Ichabod Crane) just missed a top-eight scoring finish with her ninth-place time of 9.15 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles prelims. Sophomore Kayla Koelbel (Bradford, PA/Kings Park (NY)) placed 10th in the pentathlon with 2,722 points and the 4x400-meter relay team of Kupiec, Conant, junior Kiersten Duroe (Horseheads) and Harper was 12th in 3:58.92.
