Offense Erupts for #7 Men's Lacrosse in 21-7 Win vs. Oneonta

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Twelve different players scored at least one goal as the nationally seventh-ranked Cortland men's lacrosse team defeated Oneonta, 21-7, in SUNYAC play Saturday afternoon at the Stadium Complex. The host Red Dragons improved to 10-3 overall and 4-0 in the conference, while the visiting Red Dragons fell to 4-8 and 2-1.

Senior Eric Ohman (Islip) led the Cortland offense with seven points on four goals and three assists, all career highs. Junior Benjamin Dunlavey (Elmira/Corning East) tallied a career-best four goals and added an assist. Junior Hunter Osborne (Homer) also notched a career best with three goals, while junior Dieter Treusdell (Painted Post/Corning West) matched his career high with a pair of goals.

Juniors Matt Savlov (Liverpool) and Patrick Brown (Camillus/West Genesee) each had one goal and one assist, and six others each tallied one goal. Senior Joe Slavik (Binghamton/Seton Catholic) and sophomore McLaren Brady (Syracuse/Jamesville-DeWiit) chipped in with two assists apiece.

Junior goalie Scott Tota (Webster/Webster Schroeder) made 12 saves in 38 minutes, 44 seconds as the first of four Cortland players to see time in the cage. Senior Nick Costabile (New Fairfield, CT) stopped five shots in 15:00, while freshmen Matt Liantonio (Miller Place) and Kyle Christopher (Putnam Valley) each saw the first action of his career in the fourth quarter without facing a shot on goal. Sophomore Pat Baldwin (Alpharetta, GA) won 14-of-15 faceoffs and recorded six ground balls. Sophomore Gino Prestigiacomo (Rochester/Greece Athena) was successful on all five of his faceoffs with four ground balls as Cortland won 23-of-29 overall in the game.

Sophomore Connor Coyle (Centerport/Harborfields) paced the Oneonta offense with three goals. Junior Anthony Laureano (Holtsville/Sachem East) and sophomore Robert Neubert (Lake Ronkonkoma/Sachem East) each recorded one goal and one assist, junior Kevin Theofield (East Northport/Northport) and sophomore Mike Metzger (Colonie) netted one goal apiece and sophomore Devon Casey (Garden City South/Kellenberg) added two assists.

Freshman goalie Zach Reilly (Yorktown Heights/Yorktown) turned aside 12 shots in 48:32 before giving way to sophomore Kevin Fitzpatrick (Rocky Point), who made three saves over the final 11:28. Junior Jimmy Reiser (Melville/Half Hollow Hills East) led Oneonta with five ground balls.

Cortland took control of the game in the first quarter, building a 7-0 lead as Dunlavey scored three of his goals in the opening 15 minutes. The lead grew to 11-2 at the half with four different host Red Dragons scoring and Coyle and Laureano netting man-up goals for Oneonta in the second quarter. Ohman picked up a pair of goals and one assist for Cortland in the third quarter as the lead grew to 16-5. Five different Cortland players found the back of the net in the fourth quarter for the final of 21-7.
