Cortland Men Near the Top at Three Weekend Meets

Tim Lee posted an ECAC-qualifying time of 32:07.27 in the invitational 10,000-meter run at Bucknell
Melique Garcia (Watervliet) was the top collegiate finisher in the 100-meter dash and finished fourth in the 200-meter dash at the Moravian College Coach P Open men's outdoor track and field meet. The competition was one of three the Red Dragons sent athletes to, in addition to having distance runners go to the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic and throwers attend the Nazareth Roc City Classic.

Garcia was second overall, and the first collegian, out of 61 entrants in the 100-meter dash with an ECAC-qualifying time of 10.88 seconds. He placed fourth of 77 in the 200-meter dash in 22.68 seconds. Jerel Williams (East Islip) finished fourth in the 100 meters (11.16) and ninth in the 200 meters (22.89).

Three Red Dragons posted ECAC-qualifying efforts in the 110-meter hurdles. Zach Zieniewicz (Seaford) finished fourth in 15.46 seconds, Nick Avossa (Kingston) was sixth in 15.66 seconds (15.36 in prelims) and Connor Christopherson (Morrisonville/Saranac) placed seventh in 15.68 seconds.

Rob Schenke (Kings Park) qualified for ECACs in the 400-meter hurdles with his third-place time of 55.95 seconds. Eric Wong (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) was 10th in 57.63 seconds. Andre Green (Watertown/Indian River) met ECAC standards with his third-place long jump of 6.94 meters (22' 9.25"). Jon Granger (Ticonderoga) finished fifth at 6.66 meters (21' 10.25") and Mike Cruz (West Haverstraw/North Rockland) placed 10th at 6.32 meters (20' 9").

Other highlights at Moravian included Besnik Palushi (Pine Plains) tying for sixth in the pole vault at 4.25 meters (13' 11.25") and the 4x400-meter relay team of Keewan Rondinello (Liverpool), Garcia, Wong and Williams finishing fourth in 3:24.99.

(Bucknell highlights)

Two Cortland athletes met ECAC standards at Bucknell. Tom Hopkins (Syracuse/West Genesee) was 12th in the 5,000-meter invitational race in 14:42.04 and Tim Lee (West Babylon) finished 33rd in the invitatinonal 10,000 meters in 32:07.27. Another Cortland highlight at the meet was a 12th-place finish out of 81 runners by Tim Odin (Northport) in the unseeded 1,500 meters in 3:59.26.

(Nazareth highlights)

At Nazareth, Tyler Prendergast (Waterford/Shenendehowa) won two events and finished fourth in another. He was first of 49 in the discus at 43.47 meters (142' 7"), first of 35 in the shot put at 13.64 meters (44' 9") and fourth of 38 in the hammer throw at 47.79 meters (156' 9").

Woody Millar (Saratoga Springs) won the javelin in a field of 38 competitors with a throw of 50.02 meters (164' 1"). Dante Binotto III (Canajoharie) finished fourth in the javelin (46.21 meters – 151' 7") and Daniel Margo (Oneida) was sixth in the shot put (12.70 meters – 41' 8").
