Red Dragon Women Shine at Moravian, Bucknell and Nazareth Meets

Kailyn Balzano finished 14th of 81 in the 800 meters at Bucknell with an ECAC-qualifying time of 2:15.97
Taylor Hudson (Victor) and Sarah Bonnell (Norwich) each won events and combined for four of Cortland's eight individual ECAC-qualifying performances at the Moravian College Coach P Open women's outdoor track and field meet. The competition was one of three the Red Dragons sent athletes to, in addition to having distance runners go to the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic and throwers attend the Nazareth Roc City Classic.

Hudson finished first of 41 in the long jump with a distance of 5.64 meters (18' 6") and tied for second of 35 in the high jump at 1.67 meters (5' 5.75"), both ECAC qualifiers. She currently ranks eighth nationally in Div. III in the high jump an d11th in the long jump. Bonnell won the 100-meter dash in a field of 43 sprinters in 12.54 seconds and was fifth in the long jump at 5.27 meters (17' 3.5") with ECAC marks. She also finished seventh in the 200-meter dash in 26.24 seconds.

Africa Harper (Bronx/John F. Kennedy) and Gabrielle Conant (Tully) each met ECAC standards in the 400-meter dash. Harper was ninth of 38 in 58.69 seconds and Conant placed 10th in 59.49 seconds. Harper also was fifth of 75 in the 200-meter dash in 26.20 seconds, just two tenths of a second off the ECAC mark.

Kelly Hugo (Highland) tied for second of 26 in the pole vault with an ECAC height of 3.50 meters (11' 5.75") and Lisa Bodratti (Valatie/Ichabod Crane) hit an ECAC mark with her fifth-place time of 15.23 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles.

Cortland also qualified for ECACs in two relays. The 4x100-meter team of Amanda Moore (Massapequa), Dana Kupiec (Salem), Harper and Bonnell finished second in 48.07 seconds, while the 4x400-meter unit of Kupiec, Conant, Saige Thomas (Elmira/Elmira Free Academy) and Harper finished third in 4:02.55. The 4x100 time currently ranks sixth nationally.

Moore finished sixth in the 100-meter dash (12.74, 12.71 in prelims) and eighth in the 200-meter dash (26.26). Alex Budd (Riverhead) tied for fifth in the high jump (1.57 meters – 5' 1.75"), Carla Auguste (Brooklyn/Midwood) placed seventh in the triple jump (10.38 meters – 34' 0.75"), Hugo was ninth in the long jump (5.08 meters – 16' 8") and Jane Martinez (Latham/East Lyme (CT)) finished 10th in the pole vault (3.05 meters – 10' 0").

(Bucknell highlights)

At Bucknell, five Red Dragons posted ECAC qualifying times. Kayla Blomback (Orchard Park) was third of 76 in the unseeded 1,500 meters in 4:42.36. Colleen Fischman (Orchard Park/Hamburg) and Kerri Culhane (Sayville) placed seventh (18:05.77) and 19th (18:20.43), respectively, in a field of 70 in the unseeded 5,000 meters, while Kailyn Balzano (East Greenbush/Columbia) was 14th of 81 in the 800 meters (2:15.97). Ameena Dye (DeWitt/Jamesville-DeWitt) compted in the 10,000-meter invitational race and finished 32nd in 38:34.72.

(Nazareth highlights)

Valerie Vancol (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) registered two of Cortland's three ECAC-qualifying performances at Nazareth. She won the discus in a field of 46 athletes at 38.54 meters (126' 5") and was second of 37 in the shot put at 11.91 meters (39' 1"). Diamond Jackson (Farmingville/Sachem East) was second in the discus with an ECAC distance of 37.06 meters (121' 7").
