Hudson Wins Heptathlon, Red Dragons Post 13 ECAC Performances at Cortland Classic

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Taylor Hudson (Victor) dominated the field in the heptathlon and registered four of Cortland's 13 ECAC-qualifying marks at the two-day Cortland Classic.
 
Hudson won the heptathlon with a score of 4,571 points, followed by teammate Kayla Koelbel (Bradford, PA/Kings Park (NY)) in second with 3,708 points. Hudson won six of the seven events in the 13-competitor field. Her high jump of 1.70 meters (5' 7") is currently ranked third nationally in Div. III. She also recorded ECAC standards in the 200-meter dash (25.77), 100-meter hurdles (14.86) and long jump (5.36 meters – 17' 7"), and in addition won the shot put (9.49 meters – 31' 1.75") and the javelin (29.53 meters – 96' 10").
 
Lisa Bodratti (Valatie/Ichabod Crane) won the 100-meter hurdles in 15.43 seconds after registering an ECAC time of 14.95 seconds in prelims. Competitors in sprints and hurdles faced a headwind on Saturday in the finals after benefitting from a tailwind in the prelims. Sarah Bonnell (Norwich) and Amanda Moore (Massapequa) had ECAC times of 12.40 and 12.56 seconds, respectively, in the 100-meter dash prelims. Bonnell finished second in the finals at 12.88 seconds and Moore was fifth at 13.13 seconds.
 
Africa Harper (Bronx/John F. Kennedy) placed third in the 400 meters (58.87) and Kailyn Balzano (East Greenbush/Columbia) was third in the 800 meters (2:18.09), both with ECAC times. Angelique Jean-Charles (Elmont/Valley Stream) posted an ECAC time of 15.69 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles prelims and finished eighth in the finals (17.17).
 
Cortland won three relays, all in ECAC-qualifying fashion. Moore, Dana Kupiec (Salem), Harper and Bonnell won the 4x100-meter relay (48.07). Kupiec, Gabrielle Conant (Tully), Kiersten Duroe (Horseheads) and Harper captured the 4x400-meter relay (3:58.11), while Kayla Blomback (Orchard Park), Kerri Culhane (Sayville), Jessica Hughes (Pawling) and Balzano won the 4x800-meter relay (10:01.39).
 
Michelyn Little (Voorheesville/Clayton A. Bouton) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 12:09.02. Valerie Vancol (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) finished second in both the discus (42.21 meters – 138' 6") and the shot put (12.03 meters – 39' 5.75") and Bonnell placed second in the 200 meters (26.45).
