FREDONIA, N.Y. – The nationally top-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team held 20th-ranked Fredonia St. scoreless for the first 38 minutes, six seconds of the game and went on to earn a 14-2 victory Saturday afternoon in the regular-season final for both teams. With the win, the Red Dragons improved to 17-0 overall and 8-0 in the SUNYAC and recorded the second unbeaten regular season in school history. The Blue Devils fell to 11-5 and 5-3 with the loss.

Marilyn Farrell (Fayetteville/Fayetteville-Manlius) chipped in with two assists and sophomore
Tara Monaghan (Stony Point/North Rockland) had one.

Liz Ingalls (Centerport/St. Anthony's) made five saves for the Red Dragons. Hayes-Hurley contributed three ground balls and three draw controls, Monaghan won four draws and senior
Jessica Lavelle (Fayetteville/Fayetteville-Manlius) caused a game-high five turnovers.
Marissa Cussins tallied both of Fredonia St.'s goals. She also recorded four draws and two caused turnovers, while Mary Bruton also caused two turnovers. Jessica Zagari started in goal, making one save in 14:41, before giving way to Christina Mathewson, who stopped six shots over the final 45:19.
The Red Dragons quickly built a 4-0 lead with goals from Geremia, Hayes-Hurley and two from Ohberg in the first 3:08 of the game. Martin then made it a 5-0 game at 15:19 before Ohberg concluded the first-half scoring with her third goal of the game 1:03 before intermission. Gentile and Geremia scored to open the the second half, and the Red Dragons led 8-0. Cussins finally broke the ice for the Blue Devils with an unassisted score at 21:54. Cortland then put the game out of reach with the next six goals, two each from Ohberg and Reh, for a 14-1 advantage with 3:10 remaining. Cussins finished the scoring with her second goal of the game at 2:02 for the 14-2 final.
Cortland hosts the semifinals and finals of the SUNYAC Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The top-seeded Red Dragons will face the winner of a first-round game between fifth-seeded Brockport at fourth-seeded Oneonta, while third-seeded Fredonia St. matches up with second-seeded Geneseo at the Stadium Complex
