ITHACA, N.Y. –
Tim Odin (Northport) finished third in a field of 48 in the 800-meter run and posted one of Cortland's 11 ECAC Div. III Championship qualifying performances at the Cornell University Big Red Invitational.
Odin was the top Div. III finisher in the 800 meters in 1:55.01. He was edged by Paul Lovell of Syracuse (1:54.75) and Sam Baxter of Cornell (1:54.89), who each ran in the same heat as Odin.
Andre Green (Watertown/Indian River) placed second in the long jump at 7.02 meters (23' 0.5") and
Jon Granger (Ticonderoga) was sixth at 6.76 meters (22' 2.25"), both ECAC qualifiers.
Melique Garcia (Watervliet) finished third of 33 in the 200-meter dash (22.07) and beat the ECAC standard.
The Red Dragons had two ECAC qualifiers in the 400-meter hurdles and three in the 110-meter hurdles. In the 400 hurdles,
Rob Schenke (Kings Park) was fourth of 21 in 55.81 seconds and
Eric Wong (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) placed sixth in 56.13 seconds. In the 110 hurdles,
Zach Zieniewicz (Seaford) finished fifth of 27 (14.91), with
Nick Avossa (Kingston) 10th (15.57) and
Connor Christopherson (Morrisonville/Saranac) 11th (15.70).
Cortland's other individual ECAC qualifier was
Tyler Prendergast (Waterford/Shenendehowa) with a sixth-place distance of 49.65 meters (162' 11") in the hammer throw. The Red Dragons' 4x100-meter relay team of
Khaaliq Evans (Queens/Uniondale),
Peter Sigona (Auburn),
Mike Cruz (West Haverstraw/North Rockland) and
Romain Saint Germain (Westbury) finished first with an ECAC time of 43.72 seconds.
Other highlights included a third-place finish by
Jerel Williams (East Islip) in the 400-meter dash (50.24), a fifth-place discus throw by Prendergast (41.33 meters – 135' 7") and a fifth-place effort by Green in the javelin (48.09 meters – 157' 9").
Connor Ten Eyck (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) tied for fifth in the pole vault at 4.35 meters (14' 3.25"), Saint Germain was sixth in the 100-meter dash (11.16),
Charlie Beeler (Manlius/Fayetteville-Manlius) placed sixth in the 400 meters (52.09) and
Woody Millar (Saratoga Springs) finished sixth in the javelin (47.29 meters – 155' 2").
Cortland will compete at the SUNYAC Championships Friday and Saturday, May 2-3, at Geneseo. The Red Dragons are the two-time defending league champion.
